환태평양훈련(림팩, RIMPAC : Rim of the Pacific Exercise)

올해로 24회째인 림팩훈련은 환태평양 연안 국가들의 해상교통로 안전 확보를 위해 참가국 간 연합작전능력을 향상시키고, 우호를 증진하기 위한 해상종합기동훈련으로 미 3함대사령부 주관으로 격년제로 실시되고 있다. 우리 해군은 1990년 최초 참가 이래 이번 훈련이 13회째다. 우리나라는 이번 훈련에  이지스 구축함 서애류성룡함(DDG, 7600톤)과 구축함 왕건함(DDH-II, 4400톤), 장보고급 잠수함 이순신함(SS, 1200톤) 등 함정 3척과 P-3 해상초계기 1대, 링스 해상작전헬기 2대 등이 참가하고 있다. 또한 해병대 1개 소대와 함께 올해 처음으로 해군 특임대 1개 팀(9명)도 훈련에 참가해 다국적 연합상륙작전 능력과 연합특수전·폭발물 처리 능력을 배양한다.

 

이번 림팩훈련은 22개국에서 40여대 함대와 200여대의 항공기, 2,500의 병력이 참가하여 하와이 연안에서 6월 26일부터 8월 1일까지 이어진다. 최대 규모의 국제 연합 훈련인 림팩은 각국이 연합하여 수행할 수 있는 특별한 훈련 기회를 제공한다. 위 영상은 인도의 함대가 진주만에 도착하여 정박하는 모습이 담겨있다.

Victoria is in Hawaii to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014. Twenty-two nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,00 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 26 to Aug. 1, in and around the Hawaiian Islands. The World's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.
